BATUKI
Batuki is a high energy Latin fusion band from the San Francisco Bay Area, featuring Brazilian ‘Bloco style’ percussion, melodic instruments, multilingual vocals and electronic samples. the Batuki sound is undeniable. Expressed through high energy, complex polyrhythms, and dynamic movements.
Formed in 2020 in response to the pandemic, holding outdoor rehearsals and free performances throughout the Bay Area. This artistic collective made up of teaching artists, cultural ambassadors and community workers is inspired from the word Batuque. Batuque served as ceremonial dance and drum circles for Black communities in Brazil. people came together to carry on the rhythms of resistance to fight against black oppression.
